External Condoms

How to use:

  1. Ask for and receive clear, coherent, willing, and ongoing consent

  2. Press the condom wrapper gently to feel the air bubble and check the expiration date

    1. If there is no air bubble, the condom may be punctured and if it is past the expiration date, the condom may be easy to tear. Either way, do not use this condom.

  3. Shake the condom wrapper so the condom will fall to the bottom. Gently rip the top of the wrapper and be careful not to rip the condom itself.

  4. Remove the condom from the wrapper and make sure the rolled side is showing up (bearing resemblance more to a sombrero than a beanie). Pinch the top of the condom (to make room for ejaculation) and place the condom on the tip of the erect penis. While still pinching the top of the condom, role the rest of the condom down to the base of the penis.

  5. Generally, condoms come lubricated, but if it isn’t or isn’t enough – add some lubricant.

  6. After sex is over, whether ejaculation has happened or not, you will want to remove the condom while the penis is still partially erect, sliding the condom off from the base of the penis. Once off, tie a knot at the end of the condom to prevent leakage and the spread of bodily fluids and wrap it in a tissue if possible before throwing it in the trash.

Note: If the condom comes off at any point during intercourse, get a new condom. If pregnancy is a risk, it is also recommended to take an emergency contraceptive.
